Working towards easier travel

We at Föli are constantly improving public transport because we want to make travelling smooth and easy.

#1 Contactless payment

What would the world be like if public transport was easier and cheaper to use? Firstly, the amount of emissions and congestion would reduce and traffic safety would improve. Secondly, you would save money. These are the goals we are aiming for when developing better public transport for the Turku region.

One of our most significant acts has been to facilitate easier payment for bus tickets. Föli was the first in Finland – and one of the first in the whole world – to adopt contactless payment in local transport.

Now you can pay for your journey by presenting a contactless debit or credit card, or a mobile wallet to the reader aboard a bus. The system will automatically calculate the cheapest ticket type based on the journeys you have taken and charge you at the end of the day.

We want your journeys to be ever better – wherever they may take you

#2 Cheaper, further, longer

One way of measuring the value of a bus ticket is to see how far you can travel for the cost of a single one.

Föli’s single ticket has an exceptionally long, two-hour window for changing buses, and the zoneless fixed price system is the only one of its kind in Finland. So, whether you are going to Turku, Kaarina, Raisio, Naantali, Lieto or Rusko, you can travel across the entire Föli area for the same price. Now, that is a rare treat!

And did you know that employers can encourage their employees to use public transport with Föli’s commuter tickets? This way, an employee can enjoy an inexpensive season ticket: employer-subsidised commuter tickets are tax free up to €3,400.

Föli will take you further for cheaper

#3 Local travel

Turku is characterised by calming forests, vast seas and beautiful islands. Föli makes local travel around the region easier and helps you see the city in a new and inspiring way.

In the winter, we are happy to carry you and your friends to the best skiing and winter swimming spots in the Turku region. In the summer, Föli’s water buses travel to Ruissalo and buses transport you to Kuhankuono and Kurjenrahka National Park.

And when the autumn comes, why not let Föli take you to your secret mushroom and berry picking spots? We promise not to tell a soul.

Let us bring the entire Turku region within your reach.

#4 The world’s best passengers

No public transport system anywhere in the world would work without its passengers. That is why it is important to us to welcome absolutely everyone onboard Föli!

Together, we make it possible for the buses to run and create a positive atmosphere aboard them. By taking others into account, we can ensure that travelling with us is always comfortable and our buses can serve as venues for enjoyable encounters.

Feedback and improvement ideas from our passengers help us serve you even better. Föli measures customer satisfaction regularly, three times a year. As many as 90% of our customers are happy with Föli’s services.

Föli came first in the 2020 BEST survey, which compares the quality of public transport in various European cities. It beat cities such as Stockholm, Oslo, Copenhagen, Geneva and Rotterdam. A total of 84% of the residents within the Föli area were satisfied with their public transport. Satisfaction with Föli’s safety, reliable timetables and travel comfort was particularly high.

We at Föli have the best passengers in the world!

#5 Technical solutions

We at Föli admit that we like technology, because it helps us serve our customers increasingly well.

Therefore, we were the first in Finland to implement contactless payment in local transport – and one of the first in the whole world. We have invested in a high-speed online travel card top-up system, thanks to which a top-up becomes instantly available on your Föli card.

The buses’ GPS trackers allow you to use the journey planner to follow, in real time, all of Föli’s vehicles that are operating. Furthermore, the screens on our stops provide up-to-date information at a glance about the next buses to arrive.

Föli is also a trailblazer when it comes to ID-based payments. What this means for our passengers is that tickets to Turku City Theatre, the Linnateatteri theatre, the TFO, Turku Music Festival and the Åbo Svenska Teater theatre also include a bus ticket.

Pretty handy, eh?

We are continuing to work for easier and better public transport, and we want to be the best in the world at what we do.
