The VAT rate for passenger transport changes on 1 January 2026 – Föli ticket prices remain unchanged

The Parliament has decided on an amendment to the Value Added Tax Act, which reduces the VAT rate for passenger transport from 14 percent to 13.5 percent. The change will take effect on 1 January 2026.

The change in VAT rate will not affect customer prices for Föli tickets. The impact on a single ticket would be 2 cents (€0.02), and on a child ticket less than one cent.

The decision on the VAT change was made on a tight schedule, which is why the necessary technical changes in the systems could not be implemented by the effective date. As a result, at the beginning of 2026, receipts for tickets may temporarily show an incorrect VAT percentage. However, Föli always remits VAT to the state according to the correct, valid rate.
