In a meeting held on 27 May, the Turku City Region’s Public Transport Committee decided that the loading of travel cards with cash on buses will continue until contactless payment is introduced. It is estimated that contactless payment will be introduced in Föli traffic this autumn.

The decision to discontinue the loading of travel cards on buses was already made in 2015. At the time, the committee decided that loading on buses would be abandoned once there were sufficient conditions for it. The opportunities for loading travel cards have clearly improved during the existence of Föli. Travel cards can be loaded through the online loading service, Föli application, service and loading points as well as ticket machines. Loading points can be found in local R-kiosks and Prismas, among other places. Contactless payment does not allow travel cards to be loaded on buses, but it does allow single tickets to be paid on buses using a contactless-enabled debit or credit card.

The aim of this change is to streamline traffic and service.
