Demand responsive transport experiment starts in Lieto and Naantali via a mobile app

An automatic journey combination system and a system where a demand responsive trip can be booked via a mobile app will be experimented with in Lieto and Naantali. For the duration of the experiment, booking a demand responsive bus trip and buying a single ticket in the mobile app costs only 1 euro. The ticket is a normal Föli single ticket with a two-hour right of transfer to other Föli transportation, and it can also be used to travel to Turku or elsewhere in the region. The price is only available for those who have purchased a ticket in the mobile app. The experiment will last 4 months.

The experiment starts in Lieto on Tuesday 5 June and in Naantali on Monday 11 June

In Lieto, demand responsive transport can be booked with a mobile app for the entire summer, starting from Tuesday 5 June 2018. The demand responsive transport in Lieto is available on lines L8, L9, L10 and L11 during school holidays from Monday to Friday at 8am–12pm. During school days, demand responsive transport will be available from Monday to Friday at 9:25am–10:25am and 11:10am–11:55am.

In Naantali, demand responsive transport can be booked with a mobile app on line N1. The transport is available during the demand responsive transport times. During school holidays, demand responsive transport can be booked from Monday to Friday at 10:50am–12:50pm, and during school days, at 10:20am–12pm. The mobile app experiment will start in Naantali on Monday 11 June 2018.

The goal of the experiment is to collect experiences and feedback of a new way to book demand responsive transport and combine journeys automatically in the background. If the experiment yields positive results, the journey combination system can be used and expanded to other MaaS services in the future.

Mobile booking will not replace the option to book a bus trip by calling the driver, but the discounted price is only available for those who have purchased a ticket in the mobile app. In addition to the app, you can book a demand responsive bus trip by calling 040 834 0009 in Lieto and 040 773 0025 in Naantali.

What is demand responsive transport?

Demand Responsive Transport (DRT) is a form of public transport which is open to all and in which the bus routes are based on the needs of customers, instead of operating on fixed routes. The customer places a call directly to the phone number of a specific DRT bus and arranges the transport with the driver. The driver then decides the route. DRT capacity is limited, so if many requests are placed, it is possible that the bus will not have the time to fulfil all the requests. Read more about DRT: www.foli.fi/kutsuliikenne
